Disclaimer: Readers' Arcades is owned and operated by a Polish company and is subject to the laws of the Republic of Poland. We operate in full compliance with Polish law, including the constitutional protections for freedom of expression and the statutory provisions governing content moderation, defamation, and hate speech. These guidelines are designed to uphold both the rights of our reviewers and the integrity of our platform within the framework of Polish and European Union law.

Introduction

Readers' Arcades is a curated platform for thoughtful, substantive book reviews. Our mission is to connect readers with books they will genuinely love through editor-vetted, trope-aware, and vibe-driven recommendations. We are not a free-for-all review dump. We are a space free from troll wars, review bombing, and the aggressive marketing that plagues other platforms.

Our collection features carefully selected works chosen for their quality and enduring appeal. Our readers come to us because they trust our curation and value the insights of fellow readers who share their passion for great storytelling.

These guidelines exist to protect the integrity of our space and to ensure that every review published on Readers' Arcades adds genuine value to our community. Every review undergoes manual review before going live. Reviews that do not meet these standards will not be published.

On Editorial Reviews

Readers' Arcades publishes editorial reviews, which include assessments written by the publishing house, by the platform team, and AI-generated overviews designed to provide neutral, objective summaries of each book. These reviews reflect how the publisher and platform view the book—its strengths, its intended audience, and its place within our collection—alongside a balanced AI-generated description of the book's content and themes. All editorial reviews are clearly labelled as such and are distinguishable from user-submitted reviews. They are published in full compliance with Polish and EU law, including regulations governing commercial communication, AI-generated content, and consumer protection.

On User Reviews - Reviewing Is a Serious Commitment

At Readers' Arcades, reviewing a book is not a casual exercise in posting whatever comes to mind. When you submit a review on our platform, you are taking on a serious responsibility. You are volunteering to read a book carefully, to engage with it thoughtfully, and to present its value—or lack thereof—to other potential readers. You are becoming a representative of the book by reviewing it.

This is not like other review websites where anyone can post anything about a book without consequence. On Readers' Arcades, we expect our reviewers to approach their task with the seriousness it deserves. This means reading the book in its entirety, thinking critically about its strengths and weaknesses, and writing a review that demonstrates genuine engagement with the text.

You may write a positive review, a negative review, or a neutral review. All are welcome. But regardless of your final assessment, your review must show that you have considered the book's objective value. What does the book do well on a craft level? What are its strengths? Where does it succeed or fall short? A review based solely on personal opinion without any engagement with the book's actual content has no place on our platform.

We expect our reviewers to have some knowledge of literature and to approach their task as serious readers. This means paying attention to character development, plot structure, prose style, thematic depth, and the other elements that distinguish thoughtful criticism from random feedback. If your review could be written without having read the book, it is not a review—it is noise, and it will be rejected.

On Star Ratings

Readers' Arcades does not use star ratings. We never have, and we never will.

Star ratings were designed for hotels—they tell you if a room has a minibar or a pool. They were never intended to evaluate literature. A five-star rating could mean "this book changed my life" or "I liked the cover." A three-star rating could indicate "it was perfectly fine" or "I did not understand the hype." The ambiguity renders star ratings useless for helping readers make informed decisions.

We review books on merit, not on a simplistic number. Your words matter. Your analysis matters. Your personal take matters. A star rating is just noise.

Any review containing a star rating—whether 1, 5, or anything in between—will be automatically rejected. No exceptions.

What We Publish

We publish thoughtful, genuine reviews from real readers who have actually finished the book. We celebrate books for their genuine appeal, and we want to hear from readers who have engaged meaningfully with the story.

A good review demonstrates that you engaged deeply with the book. It is specific, thoughtful, and helpful to other readers. If your review could be copied and pasted onto any book and still make sense, it is probably too vague.

We recommend the following structure for your review:

Start with the essentials. In your opening sentence, state the book title, author, genre, and key tropes. This immediately helps readers understand what they are dealing with and improves discoverability.

Discuss the characters and their chemistry. Who are the main characters? What drives them? What is their dynamic? Do not simply say "the characters were good." Explain their personalities, flaws, motivations, and how they relate to one another.

Outline the plot and stakes. What is the central conflict? What is at risk? Avoid a blow-by-blow summary of the entire book, but give readers a sense of the trajectory and the tension that kept you turning pages.

Describe the setting and atmosphere. Where does the story take place? How does the setting influence the mood and the characters? The setting is often a character in its own right.

Comment on the prose and notable motifs. Discuss the author's writing style. Is it lyrical, punchy, immersive? Also highlight recurring symbols, objects, or phrases that carry thematic weight.

Assess the objective value. What does the book do well on a craft level? Is it a masterclass in slow-burn tension? Does it handle a difficult subject with authenticity? This is about acknowledging the book's strengths, not whether you personally liked it.

Conclude with your personal reading experience. Finally, share how the book made you feel. Did it live up to the hype? Surprise you? Disappoint you? This is where your subjective response shines, and it is what other readers most connect with.

Recommended length: We suggest about 150–200 words. Substance matters far more than length, but depth is always appreciated.

Spoilers are welcome. Unlike most review platforms, Readers' Arcades encourages spoilers. We believe readers deserve the full picture when deciding whether a book is right for them. Maybe a twist does not land. Perhaps a character death feels unearned. The ending might not be what you hoped for. These are valid observations, and other readers deserve to know about them. No topic is off-limits. If you are concerned about spoiling others unintentionally, you can add a brief heads-up such as "Spoilers ahead" before you dive into detailed plot discussion, but our readers understand what they are clicking into.

AI-generated reviews are accepted. AI can be a useful tool to organize your thoughts or polish your writing. However, the final result must be valuable, thoughtful, and genuinely reflect your reading experience. Generic AI fluff will be rejected.

Multiple reviews are welcome. You can submit as many reviews as you like, as long as they are for different books. Do not submit the same review for multiple books or flood us with low-effort content.

Content Standards – What We Do Not Publish

To maintain the quality and integrity of our platform, we do not accept reviews that fall into any of the following categories. This list is comprehensive. If your review contains any of these elements, it will be rejected.

1. No Scoring Systems

Reviews that include any form of star rating, percentage score, letter grade, or other numeric scoring system will not be accepted.

2. No Self-Promotion or Marketing

We do not publish reviews that promote your own books, career, website, or social media accounts; that promote other authors, books, or publishers; that contain marketing links to other review websites, platforms, or aggregators; that include spam links or affiliate marketing links; or that are written by someone hired to promote a book.

3. No Paid or Manipulated Reviews

We do not publish reviews that are written as paid promotional content where the reviewer is compensated specifically to write a positive review regardless of their genuine opinion, or that are part of coordinated campaigns to artificially manipulate a book's reception. Coordinated efforts to artificially inflate or deflate a book's reception through paid means will be detected and removed.

4. No Dishonest or Low-Quality Submissions

We do not publish plagiarized content copied from other reviews, reviews submitted on behalf of someone else, reviews from fake accounts, reviews that focus primarily on the author's personal life or politics rather than the book's content, off-topic rants that do not engage meaningfully with the book's content, one-line or extremely short reviews with no substance, the same review submitted for multiple books, or reviews from people who have not actually finished the book.

5. No Toxic or Abusive Content

We do not publish trolls, review bombing campaigns, hatred, personal attacks, abusive language directed at the author or other readers, venting frustration without constructive content, coordinated attacks on a book or author, or reviews intended solely to tear a book down rather than provide a balanced or reasoned critique. Threats of any kind directed at authors, publishers, or other readers are strictly prohibited and will result in immediate account suspension. Such threats may also constitute a criminal offense under applicable law.

6. No Unsubstantiated Accusations

We do not publish unsubstantiated accusations about a book's creation, authenticity, or legitimacy. This includes claims that a book is plagiarised, written by AI, AI-generated in part or in full, generated or created using AI for its cover, ghostwritten, stolen, infringing on another author's work, a cash grab, written solely for money, written by a committee or marketing team or anyone other than the named author, fanfiction with serial numbers filed off, fraudulent, illegitimate, or otherwise inauthentic. Such statements are serious, often defamatory, and potentially damaging. Under Polish law, making false accusations that could harm an individual's or entity's reputation may constitute the offense of defamation (pomówienie) under Article 212 of the Polish Criminal Code and may give rise to civil liability.

7. No Claims About Purchased Reviews or Bestseller Status

We do not publish claims that an author bought reviews or paid for their spot on bestseller lists. These are unsubstantiated attacks that have no place in serious literary criticism.

8. No Illegal, Discriminatory, or Offensive Content

We do not publish any content that is illegal, offensive, discriminatory, or otherwise inappropriate. This includes racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, religious intolerance, political extremism, hate speech, or any other form of content that attacks or demeans individuals or groups based on their identity, beliefs, or protected characteristics. Reviews must remain focused on the book's content and literary merit, not on divisive or inflammatory rhetoric.

Under Polish law, public incitement to hatred (publiczne nawoływanie do nienawiści) based on nationality, ethnicity, race, or religion is a criminal offense under Article 256 of the Polish Criminal Code. Insulting individuals or groups on these grounds is also prohibited under Article 257 of the Polish Criminal Code. We take these obligations seriously and will not publish any content that violates these provisions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I submit an editorial review? No. Editorial reviews are written exclusively by the publishing house, the Readers' Arcades platform team, and our AI overview system. User-submitted reviews are separate and clearly labelled as such.

Can I review a book I did not finish? No. We only publish reviews from readers who have actually finished the book. If you did not finish it, you do not have the full picture and cannot provide a fair assessment.

How long does it take for my review to be published? Please allow approximately one month for your review to be processed. All reviews undergo manual verification against our guidelines. We do not send individual notifications upon publication, so we recommend checking the book page directly.

What if I made a mistake in my review or want it deleted? Contact us and we will help you correct or remove your review.

What if my review was rejected but I disagree? You may contact us for reconsideration. Please provide written confirmation that you have reviewed our guidelines and that your submission complies with them. However, please note that if your review arrives as part of a coordinated review bombing campaign—characterised by multiple negative reviews submitted in a short time frame—it will be rejected regardless of individual content. Readers' Arcades retains the right to reject any review at its sole discretion for failure to comply with these guidelines. All moderation decisions are made in accordance with applicable law and are final.

I am an author. Can I submit my book for review on Readers' Arcades? Yes. We accept external books for review as guest posts. Please contact us to discuss the process. Please note that this is a paid service, and payment is required regardless of whether the review is positive or negative. All reviews remain honest and based on the reviewer's genuine assessment of the book.

Can an external author receive a Hasalynx Press editorial review? No. Editorial reviews are reserved exclusively for books published by Hasalynx Press. If Hasalynx Press did not publish your book, you are not eligible for an editorial review.
